Within the walls of The Iowa Children's Museum, kids' imaginations take flight, whether they're exploring far-off galaxies, unraveling the mysteries of science, or embarking on unforgettable adventures. The museum's "ICM for Everyone" programs are designed to remove barriers, meet community members where they are, and welcome all audiences to experience the power of play. 

 

They offer free museum admission to visitors who participate in SNAP, WIC, and other qualifying programs. Hundreds of individuals are able to experience the magic of the museum each month through this program, connecting children with opportunities to learn and grow. 

 

"As a low-income single mom, it's important to have time to bond and for my daughter to play and socialize. [At The ICM] we are able to play together in a stress-free setting with creative activities that engage her mind," said one participant in the ICM for Everyone program. The museum also provides free museum admission and memberships to a number of nonprofit partners in the area.

 

Free events throughout the year further expand upon the museum's accessibility efforts, including STEM Family Free Night on the last Friday of each month. During this event, everyone is welcome to play and learn about topics related to science, technology, engineering, and math. 

 

To support children and families with sensory needs, The Iowa Children's Museum offers a monthly Sensory Friendly Night where sound levels are adjusted to create a calmer environment. KultureCity sensory bags and the Family Sanctuary are also available for guest use at any time.

 

Outside the museum walls, they provide free outreach events in parks, at community events, and in partnership with other nonprofit organizations. These events bring hands-on learning to children in their own neighborhoods.
