Literacy at Conception

The obstetricians at OB GYN Associates provide prenatal care while also focusing on further stages of life for babies. Through their support of the North Liberty Community Library’s Stork Storytime initiative (formerly called Womb Literacy), OB GYN Associates is developing more successful children in our community.

The Stork Storytime mission is to help parents-to-be establish a daily reading routine before the birth of their baby. There are many benefits of reading aloud to young children, including vocabulary building and language development. Studies show children are more successful in school, work, and life when frequently read to at home.  The habit of daily reading is established before the baby is born, making it easier to continue after the baby arrives.   This is proven to develop a strong bond between parent and child and serves as the beginning for the child’s lifelong learning journey.

OB GYN Associates works to ensure a healthy baby upon delivery. Their partnership with the Stork Storytime initiative ensures more Iowa City area babies grow into confident, successful adults.  Just as it’s never too late to learn literacy skills and a love for lifelong learning, it’s never too early either.
