Float Away Stress

Floating in a 95-degree tub of water and 900 pounds of diluted Epsom salt, clients can relax and unwind in silence or with music.

Iowa Recovery Room owner Patrick Krier has been able to use the sensory deprivation tanks as a way to give back to the community. Krier has been able to donate floats to local schools, Big Brother Big Sisters, Team Breast Friends (breast cancer non-profit), Friends of the Animal Center Foundation, The Arc of Southeastern Iowa, and Habitat for Humanity. He has also been working with the Iowa City Police, Fire Departments and First Responders to help reduce stress and burnout.

“Officers carry a lot of weight in our day-to day jobs,” said ICPD Officer Ashley Jay. “It can be very hard to adjust mentally.”

This relaxing therapy has also helped the first responders get better sleep at night, helping them be prepared for another long day on the job. Working closely with these groups to destress, relieve pain and live happier, healthier lives has been a core practice Krier is eager to continue expanding.
